April is Valley Bike Month…so get out and ride! Riding a bicycle is efficient, economical, ecological, healthy, and best of all – it’s fun! Ride your bike this month and throughout the year to help save the environment and connect with your community. Whether a biking enthusiast or novice, adult or child, Valley Bike Month has something for everyone. Attend any Valley Bike Month event and receive a free gift! Here’s what’s happening during Valley Bike Month:

 

Valley Bike Month Contest, April 1 – April 30

Ride your bike to work, for recreation or participate in a bike-related activity and you can win great prizes. Prizes include a one-night stay at the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs and gift certificates to local bike shops and restaurants.

Avondale Spring Fling

Saturday, March 22
10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Avondale Civic Center Amphitheater, 11465 W. Civic Center Drive, Avondale
     Celebrate the arrival of spring and learn ways to keep your family healthy. Health screenings, bike parade, bike decorating contest, bike safety and helmet booth, youth bike raffle (two youth bicycles raffled), rides and games for all ages. Plus, a special visit by the Easter Bunny.

Tempe Bike-A-Palooza

Saturday, April 5
7:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Kiwanis Park, Guadalupe Road and All American Parkway, Tempe
     It’s everything under the sun about biking. A bike swap meet with great deals on new and used bike goods, bike rodeo for kids, helmet fittings and giveaways, community bike ride, bike tune-ups, safety information, bike-on-bus demonstrations and more. Special kids’ zone features a live Radio Disney remote and middle-school bike decorating show.

Peoria Pioneer Days Family Bike Ride

Saturday, April 5
Registration: 8:00 a.m.
Ride: 8:30 a.m.
83rd Avenue and Washington Street, Peoria
     The fun begins in Oldtown Peoria with a six-mile, police-escorted family bike ride, live entertainment, craft vendors, historical tours, games, make-n-take crafts, pony rides, a petting zoo and more. Bike helmets required for all riders. Stay for the Pioneer Days Parade at 10 a.m.!

RideClean Arizona Championship Criterium

Registration: 7:00 a.m.
8:00 a.m – 4 p.m.
3rd Ave and Washington, Phoenix
     
Closed road bicycle racing comes to Phoenix. Spectators will enjoy fast paced action, a kids’ fun ride and race and bicycle safety demonstrations. Open to the public. Pre-registration required.

Glendale Family Bike Ride

Sunday, April 13

     Sahuaro Ranch Park, 59th Avenue and Mountain View Road, Glendale  
Do your part to GET GREEN with this 6- and 12-mile family bike ride. Bring used, plastic grocery bags to exchange for ride T-shirts! Enjoy kids’ activities and information on ways to improve the environment. Online registration available.

Scottsdale Cycle the Arts

Sunday, April 20th, 2008
Registration: 7:30 a.m.
Ride: 8:00 a.m.
Eldorado Community Center, 2311 N. Miller Road, Scottsdale
     Enjoy this family friendly 8-mile bike course that offers an up-close and personal look at Scottsdale public art. The first 75 kids will receive a free bicycle helmet. Receive free admission to the public art museum and enjoy kids’ bicycle art activities after the ride. Helmets required.

Great Bike Chase Family Bike Ride

Sunday, April 20
Registration & Pre-game activities: 9:00 a.m.
Ride: 11:00 a.m.
Game: 1:10 p.m.
Margaret T. Hance Park & Chase Field, Downtown Phoenix
     It’s a grand slam when you combine baseball and biking. Bring your family and your bikes to Margaret T. Hance Park for fun and games, then take a refreshing 3.5 mile, police-escorted ride to Chase Field to watch the Arizona Diamondbacks vs. San Diego Padres. Enjoy refreshments, entertainment, giveaways and prize drawings.

UPDATE
Pre-registration for this event is now closed. We welcome interested riders to come to Hance Park on Sunday and take part in the festivities. The standby list for tickets will open at 9:00 a.m. All available standby tickets will be released at approximately 10:30 a.m. and given out to those persons on the standby list in the order that they signed up.
