Saturday Live Shot Opportunity Singles to Speed Date on Valley Metro Bus What: Valley Metro is helping the public get a jump on Valentine’s Day by hosting a two-hour speed-dating event on a bus. The event, part of 'Find Your Match' month declared earlier this month by Valley Metro and Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano, is designed to connect singles with the public transit experience and potentially with new relationships too. Speed-daters will change partners every time the bus stops during a special evening route through downtown Scottsdale. When: Saturday, Feb. 9 Where: On board a Valley Metro bus departing from Suede lounge, 7333 E. Indian Plaza, Scottsdale Why: This event is part of “Find Your Match Month,” when the public is encouraged to try Valley Metro’s online matching service at www.ValleyMetro.org to locate a carpool or vanpool partner for shared commuting. Those who share a ride or use alternative transportation—43 percent of all employed—are helping to reduce daily pollution by more than 292,000 pounds (146 tons) and keeping 8.6 million miles from being driven every day. “We hear great feedback from our customers that carpooling, vanpooling or riding the bus has opened the doors to new friendships, business partners and even marriages,” says David Boggs, Valley Metro executive director. Following last year’s success, Valley Metro and Cupid.com are partnering again to show more singles that riding the bus can yield unexpected benefits. “This is simply a fun way to introduce commuters to transit or ridesharing, especially those who may not have tried it before,” Boggs adds. Visuals: Valentine’s Day-themed bus packed with 30 singles, who are “speed dating” in pairs, ages 27-41. Media interviews can be accommodated before, during, or after speed dating NOTE to MEDIA: One couple will receive a make-over prior to the event at Dolce Salon & Spa in Peoria. Before and after photos will be available. Photos and B-roll available from 2007’s event. |
