Win Tickets to ASU Football This Season
The college football season is underway…and you and three of your friends—fellow football fans—could be sitting in Sun Devil Stadium watching one of the three remaining home games. Valley Metro is giving away four tickets to each ASU home football games this season.
You can enter the Alt Mode User of the Game Contest if you—carpool, vanpool, bus, bike, walk or telecommute. To enter just complete the online entry form on the Valley Metro website. Winners will be notified prior to each game and will also get a parking pass.
You can enter the Alt Mode User of the Game Contest only once for the entire season so be sure to check the remaining home game(s) on the entry form that you want to attend if you win.
Bicycle Safety
With cooler weather in the forecast, it’s time to get the bicycles out and think about taking a ride, maybe to the park with the kids, to work, for exercise, or just for fun. Doing it safely is easier with good biking skills. The Coalition of Arizona Bicyclists, a local education and advocacy group offers beginner and advance skills courses.
Road I- The Science of Street Cycling, and Road I For Women are endorsed by the Arizona Department of Transportation Bicycle and Pedestrian Program, taught by instructors certified by the League of American Bicyclists. These classes teach the street riding skills needed to master operating a bike in any traffic, anywhere, anytime! In addition you will learn about Arizona bike laws, lane, speed, and intersection positioning, accident prediction, and accident avoidance. The class takes place in the classroom and on the bike. Road I is recommended for newer as well as veteran bicyclists. Taught in one or two day formats, depending on rider experience, the cost is $35. Group discounts are available. For more information or to register for a fall class, go to the Coalition of Arizona Bicyclists website.
Ozone season is over; PM-10 season is here!
Ozone season ended on September 30th. All in all, it was a pretty good summer with seven high pollution advisories and none in the last two months. As we put ozone season behind us, the brown cloud looms on the horizon. Particulate matter—the very small particles of dirt, pollen, brake linings, rubber from tires and everything else that gets run over and beat up by vehicles on the roads—hangs suspended in the air and forms the part of the brown cloud that you can see. You can help in reducing PM pollution by driving less and keeping your tires properly inflated. As always, we encourage carpooling, transit, biking or walking to work if possible. You can also avoid creating particulate pollution by using lawn equipment wisely and using rakes and brooms whenever possible. For more information on particulate pollution and it’s health effects, visit our website.
