Winter TRP Kit is Here!

Look for the large Valley Metro envelope with the TRP Winter Kit beginning this week. The featured item is a unique 2008 Year of Great Calendar/Poster. The poster is packed with “resolutions” that your employees can make to “green-up” by using transit to save time, money and have some fun! The Winter Kit also has the Blue Sky View newsletter with more ways to be “green,” and details on the new “Valley Metro to The Rescue” Essay Contest for employees. The Grand Prize is a Two-Night Stay at the 5-Diamond Scottsdale Fairmont Princess Resort!

Carpoolers, Vanpoolers, Bus Riders… Be a Star!

Valley Metro is looking for individuals who found new friendships, business deals, a hiking buddy, even love with someone they met through a carpool, vanpool or bus ride. Do you know someone with an interesting story about how carpooling, vanpooling or riding the bus brought unexpected "benefits" into their lives? Valley Metro is working with local media to tell these stories throughout the month of February. If you have a story or know someone who does, call us right away! Contact Tara La Bouff at 480-317-6064 or e-mail: tara.labouff@rrpartners.com

New! Transit Service Changes Begin Jan 28: 5am-Midnight on Five Routes

Five Valley Metro Bus Routes will hit the streets at 5:00am and run until midnight when the latest round of transit changes takes effect Monday, January 28, 2008. Two new neighborhood routes--the Desert Ridge and Northwest Neighborhood Circulators-- will also begin rolling and additional RAPID trips will be added to improve service and ease overcrowding. The five routes with extended 5am-Midnight service are:

    --Route 8 (7th Ave.)
    --Route 10 (Roosevelt/Grant St.)
    --Route 15 (15th Ave.)
    --Route 43 (43rd Ave.)
    --Route 77 (Baseline Rd.)

Check the Valley Metro Website to preview transit service changes for all Valley Metro routes.

Transit Schedules Go Where You Go

Valley Metro has a new way to get schedule and routing information 24/7. A mobile-friendly version of the Valley metro website is now up and running for web-enabled handheld devices and cell phones. All Valley Metro bus schedules, the on-line trip planner, rider alerts and agency news are featured in mobile view format. The site also has a “text only” feature for the visually impaired. If you’re not mobile yet, you can still use the Valley Metro Bus Book, go online at www.valleymetro.org, or call Transit Information 602-253-5000.

Order Bus Books

With more “electronic” ways to get bus route schedules, Valley Metro is reducing the number of printed Bus Books. But they are still available for TCs, Site Coordinators and on buses. You can place an order for the new Bus Book online or call 253-5000. New Bus Book deliveries begin January 21, and may take two weeks or more during the initial Bus Book delivery period.

TRP Training Workshop Schedule

The Valley Metro Intro to TRP and Plan Writing/Documentation workshop is now held from 9:00am to 12:00pm at the Valley Metro offices in downtown Phoenix at 1st Ave and Van Buren. The next two training workshops are:

    • Thursday, February 14, 2008

    • Thursday, March 13, 2008

Call 602-262-7433 to register or e-mail Rideshareinfo@ValleyMetro.org and include your name, organization name, phone/fax number, e-mail and date you want to attend.

There’s a TCA Close to You!

Where can you get great ideas from other TCs and Site Coordinators, pick up on the latest transit news and meet experts and leaders in the transit world? All of this (and more!) is available at your local TCA (Transportation Coordinator Association) monthly meeting. Not sure which TCA is for you? Check the Valley Metro Website for the TCA closest to your home or worksite.
