Valley Metro RideChoice

Valley Metro RideChoice provides taxi service at a deeply discounted rate to qualified seniors and people with disabilities in participating communities.

  • Choose your favorite authorized RideChoice provider.
  • Travel 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
  • Request your ride when you want to travel; there’s no need to book ahead.
  • Go directly to your desired destination. You do not have to share your ride with other participants.
  • Travel with up to three additional passengers for no extra charge.
  • If you need to make a quick stop on the way, that’s fine. Drivers can wait for up to five minutes.
  • In keeping with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Arizona state law, service animals are welcome, at no additional charge.
  • Wheelchair-accessible service is available, and there’s no extra charge.

Participating Communities

The following communities participate in the Valley Metro RideChoice programs. Program rules vary by community and are summarized below:

  • Chandler – Purchase up to $240 of taxi service per month for 75% off. Funds can be carried over from month to month to a maximum value of $720. Chandler RideChoice Fare Cards are blue.
  • Fountain Hills – Pay $3 for a trip of up to $18 on the meter. You are responsible for the entire cost above $18 on the meter. Fountain Hills participants are eligible for 16 one-way trips per month for any purpose and up to 40 one-way trips per month for work, school or medical services. Fountain Hills RideChoice Fare Cards are purple.
  • Gilbert - Pay $3 for a trip of up to $18 on the meter. You are responsible for the entire cost above $18 on the meter. Gilbert participants are eligible for 16 one-way trips per month for any purpose and up to 40 one-way trips per month for work, school or medical services. Gilbert RideChoice Fare Cards are purple.
  • Mesa - Pay $3 for a trip of up to $18 on the meter. You are responsible for the entire cost above $18 on the meter. Mesa participants are eligible for 16 one-way trips per month for any purpose and up to 40 one-way trips per month for work, school or medical services. Mesa RideChoice Fare Cards are purple.
  • Surprise - Pay $3 for a trip of up to $21 on the meter. You are responsible for the entire cost above $21 on the meter. Surprise participants are eligible for 16 one-way trips per month for any purpose and up to 40 one-way trips per month for work, school or medical services. Surprise RideChoice Fare Cards are orange.
  • Tempe - Pay $3 for a trip of up to $18 on the meter. You are responsible for the entire cost above $18 on the meter. Tempe participants are eligible for 16 one-way trips per month for any purpose and up to 40 one-way trips per month for work, school or medical services. Tempe RideChoice Fare Cards are purple.

Eligibility for Valley Metro RideChoice

  • Seniors age 65 and above who provide proof of residency within a participating community and proof of age
  • People with disabilities who provide proof of residency within a participating community and who are certified as ADA paratransit eligible by Valley Metro

Registering for Valley Metro RideChoice

Contact the Valley Metro Mobility Center at 602.716.2100, by TTY at 602.251.2039 or by email at ridechoice@valleymetro.org. Request a RideChoice application. Complete and return it to Valley Metro, along with any required documentation. Valley Metro staff will review your application and verify your eligibility for service. Once we verify your eligibility, we will enroll you in the program, and you will receive a welcome packet from our RideChoice provider, MJ Management.

Your RideChoice welcome packet will include program information about the RideChoice program rules for your community and your RideChoice Fare Card. Read the rules carefully

Adding Value to Your Card

In most RideChoice communities, adding value to your RideChoice Fare Card is optional. In Chandler, it is required.

You can add value to your RideChoice Fare Card online, or you may do so by mail or by phone.

  • By Mail – Send a check or money order made payable to Valley Metro RideChoice to the following address:

    Please note – Funds which are added with a credit or debit card by phone or online are available immediately. Payments made by check or money order will be applied to the account on the day that they are received.

Using RideChoice

Once you have your card and you are ready to travel. Just follow these three simple steps.

Step 1 – Call one of the participating providers directly to schedule your transportation needs. Please be sure that you identify yourself as a Valley Metro RideChoice customer.

Step 2 – When the taxi arrives at your pickup location you are ready to take your trip. Please keep in mind the following:

  • You MUST have your RideChoice card in your possession in order to use the service.
  • The driver is not required to wait more than five minutes for you to board the taxi.
  • The driver will provide basic assistance to and from the vehicle, assist with carrying of small packages and with stowing of fold up mechanical aids.

Step 3 – Swipe your card. Once you have boarded the taxi you must swipe your card to verify that the card is valid, establish a starting date/time and record the pickup location. Once you reach your destination you must swipe the card for a second time to record the drop-off time, location and to deduct any funds you are using to pay for the RideChoice trip.

Additional tips for swiping your RideChoice Fare Card:

  • If you need assistance, the driver will help you swipe your RideChoice Fare Card.
  • If you do not have available funds on your RideChoice Fare Card to cover your portion of the cost of your trip, you are required to pay the driver the difference at the time of the trip.
