Sun City (effective January 1, 2011)

Starting January 1, 2011, Valley Metro, in partnership with Discount Cab, will provide transportation service in the Sun City and Youngtown service areas. Trips for medical purposes may be provided on a space-available basis.

Starting January 1, 2011, Valley Metro is partnering with Discount Cab to offer ADA-certified passengers transportation within the Sun City and Youngtown ADA-service areas. Trips for medical purposes may be provided on a space-available basis.

How do I make an ADA trip reservation in the Sun City and Youngtown ADA service areas?

Call (602) 266-8723 at least one day in advance for a ride within the Sun City and Youngtown ADA service areas. Ride reservations can be made from one to 14 days in
advance.

Reservations for ADA trips with Discount Cab begin on December 20, 2010. Reservationists are available seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. If a cancellation is necessary, please cancel at least two hours prior to your scheduled pickup time.

How do I ride?

Please be ready to leave during the agreed pickup time. Have correct change ready. No food, drink or smoking is allowed in vehicles.

imageThe Discount Cab drivers will help you to and from your door. They will assist you in boarding and exiting the vehicles.

Drivers will carry your groceries and/or packages to your door, but are NOT ALLOWED to enter your home.

Animals must be crated before being allowed on vehicles. This does not apply to service animals.

What are the ADA service hours?

  • Monday – Friday 4:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • No ADA service on national holidays when fixed-route bus service is not provided

  • ADA trips: $2 one way
  • Non-ADA trips: $4 one way
  • Exact cash fare required
  • No credit or debit cards are accepted
  • SCAT Dial-A-Ride tickets are accepted until January 31, 2011

How do I get ADA certified?

If you would like to become certified under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), you can request an application from the Valley Metro ADA-certification office by calling (602) 716-2100, TTY (602) 251-2039, or download the ADA Application for Persons with Disabilities in PDF format from http://www.ValleyMetro.org.

What if I need a wheelchair-accessible van and not a car?

Discount Cab will provide an ADA-compliant, wheelchair-accessible van at no additional cost.

What happens to my current SCAT subscription?

All ADA SCAT subscriptions will be cancelled and new subscriptions must be made through the Valley Metro/Discount Cab partnership by calling (602) 266-8723.

Does this service only offer ADA trips?

No. The Valley Metro Discount Cab partnership will service all ADA trip requests and will provide other trip requests when space is available. An ADA trip must begin and end in the ADA service areas during ADA service hours/days, and be requested by an ADA-certified passenger.

What if I have dialysis/chemotherapy on Saturday or Sunday?

This is not considered an ADA trip. However, dialysis/chemotherapy trips are provided under the “life-sustaining trip” category. Call reservationists at (602) 266-8723 at least one day in advance to schedule a trip within the Sun City and Youngtown areas.

Can I go to Sun City West with this program?

No, not at this time. The service areas are currently Sun City and Youngtown.

Is SCAT Dial-A-Ride still in operation?

No. As of December 31, 2010, SCAT will no longer be in operation.
