Evolve Your Commute

Did you know the average drive-alone commuter spends nearly 40 hours a week stuck in traffic each year? That’s an entire work week idling in stop-and-go traffic or at red lights.

Do you ever wish you could do something more productive with your time or save money on gas to use for something for more fun?

If your answer is yes, now is the time to evolve your commute and try something new, something different. That’s because October is Rideshare Month. Commuters around the Valley can take part by leaving their car at home and try a variety of ways to get to work such as carpooling, vanpooling, riding the bus or light rail, biking, walking or working from home.

Carpool What if you don’t have a carpool partner or don’t know how to use transit? ShareTheRide is a ride matching system that allows you to quickly and securely find a carpool, vanpool, transit, bike or walk option. When you sign up, all of your personal information is kept confidential.

So are you ready to take the next step? Here’s how you can get involved:

Pledge through September 30 to leave your car at home and take transit, carpool, vanpool, bike, walk or telework. You can win a one-night hotel stay at Embassy Suites Biltmore Hotel.
• Participate in the Commuter Challenge from October 1-31 and compete with other teams in different categories. Register your team by September 23; team members must join by September 30. All challenge participants will receive coupons for treats courtesy of 7-Eleven.
• During October, track alternative mode trips, earn points and enter contests to win prizes.

Rideshare Month may be celebrated in October, but you never know, your commute could evolve into a whole new lower-cost, less-stressful way of life all year long.
