One in One Million Contest

One in One Million Contest Winner Announced

Our passengers are one in one million…literally. In April 2009, METRO reached a milestone in having more than one million passengers climb on board. During the following month as part of our celebratory “One in One Million Contest”, passengers were asked to share their positive stories on board light rail or at a station. Click here to view the interactive e-book version.

Congratulations to Trudy from Phoenix who was randomly selected to receive a personal tour of METRO facilities, a gift basket including METRO apparel and 30, all-day transit passes for sharing her story.

We sincerely thank all of our riders- those that ride everyday or every now and again.

And the winner is…

Trudy from Phoenix, AZ
Early one Saturday morning my friend and I biked down to the Thomas and Central station, loaded our bikes and took the light rail to Tempe - we had a great time biking around Tempe Town Lake; something we had never been able to do before as we don’t have cars that can carry bikes. We plan to do this regularly. I also walk over a mile in cool weather and take the light rail to work. I LOVE IT!!!

Russell - Tempe, AZ
As a Tempe business owner I wanted to share how much METRO has helped shaped the public image of the Valley, and specifically Mill Ave. I am proud to see my government making strides to bring the Valley into contention with other major metropolitan areas. The light rail is a beacon of positive change and I hope it continues to lead the way for many years to come.

Michal - Chandler, AZ
My family and I recently took a trip to the Phoenix Children’s Museum located downtown via the METRO light rail . We live in Chandler and in an effort to save money on gas, we decided to use a park and ride in Mesa and ride in to the museum. My 11 and 2-year-old, husband and I had a blast taking the “train” as my youngest likes to call it. At the end of the day, I don’t know if the kids enjoyed the museum or the trip on the “train” better. The ride was inexpensive and arrived within minutes. When we were finished with our day, we were able to walk back to the station and again within minutes, the light rail arrived. The seats were comfortable and the temperature on the light rail was nice and cool. I was able to load my daughter’s stroller easily as there was plenty of room. We enjoyed looking out the window to see the sights as we traveled. Our day riding the METRO light rail was definitely a memorable one!

Nancy - Fountain Hills, AZ
I carpool to work with my husband. Since he drops me off at work and then picks me up at the end of the day, I am usually “stuck” at my office. I have been at my current position in Tempe for over three years and have worked very closely with our team at our downtown location, without ever having met them in person. A few weeks ago, I was able to take the light rail to our downtown location and finally “meet” our team in person. The light rail allowed me the great pleasure to finally put a face to the name/voice on the phone. I felt like a kid going on a field trip and it was a lot of fun! I work with great colleagues and it was wonderful to finally meet them in person - all because of the light rail!

Callie - Mesa, AZ
My parents have season tickets to the AZ Diamondbacks and when I suggested that they use the light rail when the season started, they seemed a little reluctant. My dad thought it might be confusing or slow or just a hassle. I convinced them to try it out and they LOVE it! They would never even think of driving to another game! They ride the train to ALL of the Diamondbacks home games. It is so much easier than fighting traffic and searching & paying for parking! We also use it to head to downtown Phoenix to go to the Children’s Museum. My 19 month old loves riding. She has a great time watching the cars go by and people-watching too!

Kristine
A couple months ago, a friend and I had tickets to see a musical at Herberger Theatre. We decided to take the light rail and boarded in Tempe. It was so convenient! We only had a short walk to the theatre and avoided the expensive parking in downtown (especially because there was a Suns game that night). I’m taking the light rail from now on when I’m traveling downtown!

Bethany - Mesa, AZ
We used the light rail to travel from Mesa to downtown Phoenix a few weeks ago. We visited the Children’s Museum and didn’t have to worry about parking or traffic. Thanks light rail!

Chris - Scottsdale, AZ
Light rail has gotten me out of the house more often in the last 6 months than the last 20 years here in Phoenix! I myself like to frequent Internet Wi-Fi hotspots along or within short walking distances of light rail stops. Light rail has come in handy in saving gas and car wear and tear when it comes to attending events in Tempe Mill Avenue area. Furthermore I have used light rail to go to eating places as well as studying at the Phoenix Library on Central Avenue.

Margaret - Phoenix, AZ
The day after New Year’s 2009 I decided to take a ride from the beginning of the light rail to the end in Mesa. It was my first experience. While on my way to Mesa, I met a vey nice couple who were from out of town and a family with kids. It was fun to visit with other people on the rail and an awesome experience to see all of the great places that I never had the opportunity to see that I could visit on future rides. The light rail brought back many great and happy moments of a time when I dated a boyfriend who I had planned on marrying. Previous years rides on the light rail reminded me of the wonderful times that we had spent dating each other. On the way back, I found a co-worker who I did not know very well. The time and quietness of the car gave us the opportunity to get to know each other.

Peggy - Phoenix, AZ
Some coworkers and I use the light rail at lunch time to go out to different restaurants. The light rail makes it so convenient to be able to go out for lunch, without it we wouldn’t go out and we wouldn’t be patronizing these Phoenix businesses and putting money into the economy of the City of Phoenix.

Kimberly - Glendale, AZ
My friend and I had to go downtown to the courthouse. I was really dreading it because of traffic and parking. I had driven down to the courthouse to check out prices of parking and where to park. It was so expensive and they charged by the hour. You never know how long you’ll be at the courthouse. Finally we decided to take the light rail. It was the BEST trip I have ever taken downtown. The light rail let off less than a block from the courthouse and was a lot cheaper. Plus I didn’t have to deal with traffic. That was a great Idea. We will always use it for our downtown trips now. Thanks for the light rail.

Dawn - Phoenix, AZ
The new light rail is the most efficient and relaxing way to get from central Phoenix to ASU Main in Tempe. I no longer have to worry about traffic or finding parking. I simply walk to the platform from my house, and I am let off within 1/2 mile of where I need to go on campus. I am anticipating the future extensions that will allow for even more driving alternatives.

David
The light rail brings people together; for Diamondback games, for the theatre, for good restaurants throughout the valley. Riding the rails never fails!

Electra - Phoenix, AZ
A co-worker gave me tickets to a Diamondbacks game, so a friend of mine and I hopped the metro at Camelback and Central and it was a great time. The station personnel showed me how to use my metro card. The train ride was pleasant, comfortable, and quiet. It was good fun to see things that are only a blur when driving. Was just as easy getting back after the Diamondbacks won (it was early in the season!) I live in Maricopa so don’t get a lot of time to ride it but it was good experience.

Andrew - Mesa, AZ
We enjoy riding the new light rail for a unique experience in the valley - it makes us feel very metropolitan. We have taken it on weekends to discover new businesses and always look forward to our future trips. We hope it continues to expand across the valley, particularly further east in Mesa. Thank you.

Jack
We feel like the light rail has opened our eyes to the city. By riding the train and then walking to whatever destination we may have on any given day, we are exposed to things you just can’t see when you’re speeding by on a car (or a train). We try to ride the light rail once a week on either Saturday or Sunday.

Sherry - Phoenix, AZ
I went to the Greek Festival at Tempe Town Lake. It was so convenient to take the light rail; I didn’t have to worry about parking at the event.

Jose - Gilbert, AZ
My family loves riding the rail - its fast and fun allowing the whole family to interact without the frustration of stop/go traffic.

Cathy - Phoenix, AZ
I take the light rail to the Diamondbacks games. I love it and it is very convenient.

Megan - Tempe, AZ
Every year, a group of girls and I go to Chase Field for an event we created called TogaFest. We all where togas and watch a baseball game. It may seem like a strange tradition, but we have come to love it and look forward to it every year. In the past, we have used many forms of transportation including a party bus, limo, taxis, and our own cars. This year, we decided to ride the light rail, seeing as it picked up right from our condo in Tempe and went right to the ballpark. I and 20 other girls gathered our togas and hopped on the light rail for an interesting ride to the park. Not only was it convenient, but it was fun and safe. We were all given an opportunity to drink at the game without worrying about the ride home. Not only will we use the light rail next year for TogaFest, but I continue to use it weekly to get to games and meet friends downtown. (I took pictures if you want them!) We are now planning a light rail pub crawl for this Sunday!

Ron - Casa Grande, AZ
As residents of Casa Grande, we keep hearing about the light rail system on the news and decided to go to Phoenix specifically to ride the light rail, one end to the other and back again. We weren’t disappointed. It was a smooth, pleasant ride and gave us a different perspective of Phoenix than we normally get when we drive. We’ll do it again, and this time will explore the areas around the various stations. It’s a great system!

Analice - Tempe, AZ
I remember when I first found out we’d get to take the light rail, for school. I was excited. I had been looking forward to the light rail ever since I heard it was being constructed! And boy was it worth the wait. I felt strange when I entered the train, I barely was able to stay standing, but once I sat and got used to the smoothness of the ride, I nearly fell asleep it was just so relaxing. I met my group (from class) there, and we took the light rail almost to the last stop in Phoenix. That was a long ride for us, but we spent the time filming each other on our journey, talking and just enjoying the smooth, clean environment. I actually was excited to take the ride back…I’ve never been able to say that about mass transit before!

Claire
I ride the train all the time. Since it opened I have abandoned my car, with the philosophy that everything I need is downtown. I live on a rail stop, work at a rail stop and have organized my life so that my chiropractor and hairdresser are on rail stops. If I can’t train-it or walk it or bike it or run it, I don’t need it. My YMCA is downtown, the galleries and bars and theatres, yoga and library and museums are all down here. A fun trip is to take the rail to Target or AJ’s to shop, or to Tempe campus for events. I had to listen to the rail construction for a year from my bed at midnight - so you’d better believe I am going to use it. I was on the train shortly after it opened to the public in January and I started to talk to the woman next to me because I noticed she was going to a Ballet Arizona performance, and so was I. After a long conversation we found out we had mutual dear friends in another state that I had lost touch with, and she was able to provide me with current contact information for them.

Michael - Phoenix, AZ
I live about 300 ft from the Encanto Light rail station, and I was not sure during the construction I was not sure how happy I was going to be having light rail so close to my house. I love it. I take it with neighbors to the Opera, which saves time and parking. I take it to Chase Field for Baseball games. I even take it to photographic assignments downtown (I am a freelance photographer) as it’s so much easier that driving and I feel just as safe, even with a lot of expensive camera gear. I use it to go to restaurants, stores and movie theaters which are along the light rail route. On Saturday morning I take it to the farmers market near the Roosevelt station. I use it to go visit my girl friend who works in Tempe, about a block from the light rail station there. It’s always clean, cool, and comfortable. I have a car that gets excellent millage, but I still take light rail to any destination that is near a station. I like to talk to people on the train, many are visitors who have questions about things found in Phoenix. Restaurants are popping up all over the place along the light rail line; many are small non chain restaurants that offer food that you can’t find anywhere else. I think light rail was worth any inconvenience that the construction might have caused while they were building it. I am a light rail supporter.

Janiera - Phoenix, AZ
I do not currently have a car, and the light rail and the bus both get me to and from where I have to be.

Amber - Phoenix, AZ
I have lived in the Phoenix area about close to 5 years now and when my family come to visit we enjoy going downtown to catch a game! Well when the suns were playing here my aunt came into town and I didn’t have the chance to show her around town. So came online and let her know where the park-and-ride was to take the light rail downtown and catch a game! She found it easily and said there were many friendly and helpful people along the way on the light rail! Thanks to whoever was on the light rail that night to help my aunt ease her way through town! I am proud to be a resident and frequent passenger of the light rail!!

Trish - Tempe, AZ
My daughter and I catch the light rail in Tempe and use it for Downtown Phoenix events. We have found this to be a quick, efficient method of transportation. I love that my daughter’s transit pass includes light rail and we try to make use of our local resources. I love that the light rail is clean, quiet and I am able to have a conversation without having to yell over any type of noise. It reminds me of an amusement ride. Thank you light rail.
Danial - Mesa, AZ
Since the light rail rolled out I have rode numerous times. The atmosphere is clean, and quiet on the ride home. It is a pleasure to sit next to various working, college, and other groups of people. We have always had a positive conversation and I walk away better educated in the area we live, and the home state or country of visitors. The rail has been kept clean, and the operators have been very professional. Thank you.

Rich - Gilbert, AZ
Valley METRO’s vision for light rail - to offer citizens additional transportation options that take the cars off the streets and begin the change in our mindset for public transportation has been recognized by the over 1 million riders in April. Valley residents are ‘voting’ with their use of the light rail. We have been in Europe and cities in the USA that have train/metro service. It’s a great way to travel and needed now more that ever. Just make sure we all have a place to park when we head out for the light rail! We will be on the train again Memorial Day, headed downtown to the Diamondbacks vs. Padres. It’s easy to pay for your day tickets and with great monthly rider options. So get onboard folks. You can text, surf or read a paper while light rail shows you places you cannot see in a car! Maybe it’s time you started to plan for parallel tracks. Thanks.

Laura - Phoenix, AZ
Since I cannot afford my own personal chauffeur, the METRO light rail is the next best thing! I do not have to sit in traffic everyday, avoiding near accidents and angry commuters on the freeways on my way to and from work anymore. I get to sit back and either enjoy the view, take a nap, people watch, play a game, listen to music or read a book while I ride in the cool air-conditioned cars of the METRO light rail . Thank you for bringing METRO to Phoenix!

Nancy - Gilbert, AZ
I rode the light rail with my family from the east valley to downtown. We went just to experience the trip and to get ideas about where we could go with it. We found it easy to use, and expect it to be more convenient than driving into the city.

Ruth - Mesa, AZ
My mother Trula rode light rail to Phoenix and back to Mesa on her 101st birthday. She was interviewed and photographed by Ch. 5 News in Mesa and it aired that evening, Jan. 7, 2009. Her children, grand children, greats and great greats all have videos to view forever of their “Grandma Riding the Rails”. It proves you are never too old to do something new.

Samantha - Phoenix, AZ
I use the METRO light rail because it is an easier way for me to get to the Christown shopping center. It’s better then taking two buses.

Dina - Phoenix, AZ
I find the light rail to be convenient and fun to ride. I take the rail to work and also have used it for going to the baseball games. Was I surprised when I boarded the train it was full of passengers that had the same idea as me. What fun I had. I also have taken the rail to Tempe and enjoyed riding and not having to drive.

Brent - Queen Creek, AZ
The METRO is a great way to save the parking fees at the airport. I just park at work (Arizona State University) and then jump on the metro. Thanks

Judy - Phoenix, AZ
I had rode the light rail on the opening weekend, but wanted to see whether I could use it for my commute. So I decided to ride it home from work. I made sure I could lift my bike because I knew that the bicycle racks involved lifting. The bike ride from work to the light rail station went without a hitch. I bought my ticket easily, too. But when I stepped onto the train, the bag slung over my shoulder got heavier. The bike racks seemed taller, and I could not get the wheel to roll up high enough on the first couple of tries. Then several pairs of hands reached out. They made sure my wheels and handlebars did not get caught on the bikes already hung on the rack, and gave me the extra oomph to roll my bicycle up onto the waiting hook. When I got out at my stop, gravity helped me get the bike down! Thanks to friendly people on the light rail, the whole experience turned from frustration to gratitude.

Cheryl - Mesa, AZ
The light rail makes my going and coming from work faster, I love it.

Teena - Phoenix, AZ
I rode the light rail two days from the ASU Downtown area to Christown Spectrum Mall. Then I took Valley Metro Bus the rest of the way home to 19th Avenue and Union Hills Drive. I loved it and am excited about the extension up 19th Avenue.

Robert - Phoenix, AZ
Last week, I was riding the METRO, which was rather crowded. At the station in front of Chase Field, a man in a wheelchair entered. He had no legs. To a person, 3 people on my side stood up & offered him their area. 3 people on the other side also stood up. We all raised the seat to vertical. He seemed surprised, but moved to the other side and backed into the recently-created space as the train started moving. It was heartwarming to see the nearly subconscious offer by several people to stand so he could ride safely. I was very impressed at Phoenicians - as I’ve rode many other mass transits in recent years & I’ve never seen such selfless acts among strangers. To top it off, a lively conversation ensued as several people stood for the next legs of the trip. I felt welcomed, he felt welcomed!

Tony - Phoenix, AZ
Here is a letter I wrote to my congressman. The letter sums up my light rail experience here in Phoenix. I also posted this letter on my Facebook fan page. I urge you to support changes to the American Clean Energy Security Act to include public transportation. Our nation’s transportation system produces one-third of all carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in the U.S., and while transportation is the fastest growing domestic source of greenhouse gas emissions, public transportation receives zero allowance value in ACESA. As you’re aware, Phoenix recently launched a light rail system. When I first moved to the Valley three years ago, I purchased my condo because of its location two blocks from a light rail station. This purchase was probably the best thing I’ve ever done. When the system started carrying passengers back in December, I thought it would be fun to voluntarily live car free for one month. 150 days have gone by, summer is almost here, I’m still living car free and loving it. Imagine if everyone could experience light rail. Besides living car free, the new transit system has opened my eyes to communities I never knew existed both in real life and in a virtual world. I started a blog about the trains and my commute. Depending on the day my posts range from amusing to sobering, but each experience has taught me so much about my community. My hope is to inspire others to try and live car free as well; even if it’s only part time. Please vote to give people in other cities the same chance I’ve had in mine, and give them the chance to help clear the air we share.

Angel - Mesa, AZ
I had been working 3 yrs for an Agency I loved in Mesa south of the 60 freeway when my car broke down. I did not have the funds to fix it directly and relied on a friend. While I appreciated the help, it took longer than expected! My job responsibilities involved traveling to various homes throughout the Valley, from Queen Creek to Tonopah. Since I did not have a car I had to rent one to fulfill my job duties. Nevertheless, not having a car impacted my work and while my employer did not appreciate the extra hardships and efforts I was making to still complete my job duties, I was forced to seek work alternatives. I began looking at the light rail and job prospects along the route. One day I rode the rail downtown and spoke to several employers and was delighted when I was hired at a location right off one of the stops!! Although I had to leave a job I loved, I found another that fit me perfectly and am much happier! I love taking the hour ride each way because it allows me time to read, check out Facebook or other sites, ponder, or just see and meet people! I love the cleanliness and enjoy the sites along the route and seeing the development around town. My employer provides a pass with payroll deduction and while I cannot take it daily due to late work hours, I never fail to swipe my card whenever I do take the light rail. I love it!

John - Tempe, AZ
I love the light rail, especially when going to the airport

Janet - Phoenix, AZ
I ride the METRO light rail everyday. On Monday May 18, 2009, I was on the 3:45 metro going east and the metro stopped at the 12th Street and Jefferson stop and the doors did not close for a while. Then a couple of police cars pulled up and the police came aboard. They did not say what was going on, but I think this is a positive experience because we know that we have great security while riding the METRO light rail. Thank you for giving the riders the trust that we need on the light rail

Greg - Phoenix, AZ
I participated as a volunteer this year with the PF Chang marathon and used the light rail to travel back to near the starting line where my car was. I was also transporting my bicycle back which I used as my vehicle while working as a wheel chair escort for one of the participants while he completed the entire course using a racing wheel chair.

April - Phoenix, AZ
My son and I took the light rail from Central Avenue and McDowell Road. We road all the way to the end in Mesa and back to Christown Mall; shopped at Target; grabbed pizza at Costco and then rode back to Central and McDowell Road. It was like a field trip, talking about places we seen along the way.

Mathew - Glendale, AZ
I love to help people operate and learn how to use the fare vending machines. When I turn 18 I would love to become a METRO spokesman or worker. I also help people that are new to the area navigate the rail and bus system.

Evie - Phoenix, AZ
Last Saturday evening I rode the light rail with members of a brain injury support group I am involved in. We were headed to downtown Phoenix to have dinner at the Spaghetti Factory. Another member, who uses a walker, sat in one of the seats and was holding the folded up walker. The area where the seats fold up to allow for a wheelchair is noted as marked as reserved for wheelchairs or scooters, so he did not think that would apply to him. A passenger on the train stood up and said, “Here, put your walker here, so you don’t have to hold it.” I am so grateful that the METRO has the capacity to accommodate the mobility impaired and appreciative of the considerate folks who use it.

Luke - Mesa, AZ
I see a lot of people helping each other all the time. People helping put bicycles on the rack when the train is moving. People holding a closing door for families with kids or people in wheelchairs. The security guards helping people with directions. The list goes on.

Viola - Phoenix, AZ
I have taken METRO (subway) trains in many cities throughout the world and I think that our METRO light rail compares just as well as any of them. The times I have taken the METRO light rail it has been a very smooth, enjoyable ride. I will continue to use the METRO light rail as long as long as we have it available in Phoenix.

Sean - Phoenix, AZ
I was running late to the light rail station, not a lot late but a couple of minutes. I got to the park and ride as the train pulled up to the station and I started running across the street, I was lucky the light was with me. The train had started to close its doors but as I ran across the street the driver smiled at me and reopened the doors so I could jump in. He must have remembered me because I like to wave to the drivers as the trains pull up and thanks to him I was on time for work that day.

Penny - Goodyear, AZ
It was about the 3rd week that the light rail was operating fully. My boyfriend met me at my work which is on the light rail route. We rode to The Arizona Center for a movie, then on the light rail to Tempe for some dinner and drinks, then onto the end of the line toward Mesa. Our intent was to ride all the way to both ends of the route and get back off at the Central Ave stop where we entered. Well, the movie and dinner and drinks were great. It was now about 11:30 pm and on the westbound leg on Washington Ave. there was a police involved incident which held us up for quite a long time. We decided to walk to the next stop (1.5 miles) and maybe by then the light rail would be back on schedule, pick us up and take us to our final destination. We walked to the 16th St. station and waited. Then we called and asked if someone could come pick us up. Finally, we called my boyfriend’s daughter who lived nearby to pick us up and we made our way back to our vehicles and back to Goodyear (home) around 2 am. What an adventure. I rode the light rail since then, for leisure and for business, and I do love it. Sometimes things don’t run so smoothly, and you have to make the best of the situation. Thankfully, the weather was great!

Heidi
The light rail is good to go to events and Tempe. I wish the bike racks were easier to use. My bike sticks out too far to safely hang in the racks. The handlebars block people from walking by when my bike is hung up. Therefore, I have to stand next to my bike as I ride.

Mark - Phoenix, AZ
I was on my bike waiting for the cross signal at Central Ave & Indian School Road, when I noticed a fellow across the street making his way to the bus stop on the SW corner. Unfortunately, his feet weren’t moving fast enough and he missed the bus. There was no way the driver could have known to wait; the guy just plain MISSED it. This is where I had an “A-HA!” moment…rather than taking a seat at the bus stop, the tardy young man did an “About-face” and bee lined north, across Indian School just micro seconds before the flashy red hand on the cross signal went solid. The light rail station!!! It dawned on me that we have OPTIONS now. Options to get us to where we’re going! I thought it was great that he missed the bus and that without a moment to lose he was on a train going to where he needed to get. Possibly faster.

Joey - Tucson, AZ
I am amazed at the technology put into this new rail system. I saved so much time and stress hoping on sitting back and enjoying the ride and the view. I love it and will be back on it very soon.

Neil - Tempe, AZ
I use the light rail daily. From my classes in downtown on the ASU downtown campus and to working for the Arizona Diamondbacks, I enjoy this hassle free ride. Now I don’t have to wait in traffic or worry about filling my tank up with gas. This opportunity is key for any college student trying to save money on their college experience. Also on the light rail I get a positive vibe from the crew to the environment on board. Each attendant has been very helpful in every situation and I enjoy how the light rail is very clean with no graffiti. One of the best experiences I’ve had here in college is the opportunity of using the light rail.

Medina - Phoenix, AZ
I like to ride the light rail, especially when I am late. Well one day I was running really late and I was having a problem with my bus card. It kept telling me it was expired, but I knew that it was not, so I got on the light rail. The next thing I know I was being asked for my card by a police officer. I got kind of shocked to know that my card was good. It was that the card was unable to be read that morning, so I took care of it. It’s good that they make sure that you are paying for your ride at all times. Great job.

Denny
I was a rider of buses for quite a while, and when the light rail opened, I had to ride it. The trains are clean, much cleaner than the red line buses they have replaced. People were actually being social, and I like it! I prefer public transportation, over cars, because in your own car, you aren’t able to strike up conversations with people you never met before, you are secluded from society during your commute. But on the bus or the train, you could talk to other people. I support anything that takes those metal weapons (cars) off the road, and make the city a safer place to walk, bike, and take public transit around.

Roger - Phoenix, AZ
I absolutely love the light rain train - wish it had been here years ago - especially last year when gas was $4.20/gal. $100 per 25 gal fill up, 2 times a week! But now it’s here and all is well. I leave my house at 4:50 or 05:00 and get Montebello and board the 05:20 or 05:30 train. I get to Tempe and Priest Drive by 0605 or 0615 and wait 5 min for the SB 56 to come by. I get to work at either 0630 or 0640 – 90 min later. Last summer, I took the 0425 170Eb bus at the Bell Rd park-and-ride to Tatum Road and then the SB 44 to University and then the SB 56. I would start at 0415 and get to work at 0640. But on the return trip I would get off work at 1530 and wait 10 minutes for the NC 56 to university. Then wait there 25 minutes for the next NB 44. Then get to Bell Road and Tatum by 1700. Wait 15 min to get the WB 170 at 1715 and take 30 minutes to 45 minutes to get to 27th Ave and Bell Road, 2.45-3.0 hrs. The train really gets me home much faster. I wish it went from Arrowhead mall to Superstition Springs Mall, and stopped by METRO Center and the Bell Rd park-and-ride. I will be retired by that time.

Roy - Mesa, AZ
My family and I have used the Valley Metro System for as long as I can remember. Now that the economy is under duress with economic hardships, I find it better to use to help get us around. On occasion when we go to Diamond back games, we’ve found it easy to bus to a transit center and catch the light rail to the games, prevents the hassles, headaches and cost of parking. Over all Valley Metro serves our needs and we enjoy the use the local transit. Thank you.

Tasha - Gilbert, AZ
Not a big story. I have to be places, I don’t have a car. I need help.

Tom - Mesa, AZ
I’ve rode METRO about 10 times now, and all my trips have been great. I’ve taken my bike on METRO 8 of those 10 times and passengers have been nice in making room for me to get my bike on the rack.

Carolina - Glendale, AZ
I am a full time student at ASU main campus and I live at my parent’s house in Glendale. I also work for ASU at the main campus. I have to commute everyday to work over the summer.

Sean
I love taking the bus and light rail as much as I can to go play golf! Riding the bus and light rail with my golf clubs is always fun because it affords me the opportunity to meet many new people as we talk about golf until either of us get to our destination. I would like to send a big thank you to all of the drivers for allowing me to ride the bus with my clubs otherwise I may not have the opportunity to play golf anytime I like to. Thank you Valley Metro and also to all of the people who work for Valley Metro!!
