METRO Light Rail
Fares and Transit Passes
METRO light rail and Valley Metro bus share the same fare system. An all-day pass is good on both local bus and light rail. All-day passes expire at 2:59 a.m. on the following day. If you buy a pass for light rail / local bus, and then decide to take a Express or RAPID bus you simply pay the difference for the upgrade in cash on the bus.
Reduced fares are available to youths ages 6-18, seniors 65 and over, and persons with a disability. Reduced fare applies to local service only. Children 5 and younger are free.
METRO uses a proof-of-payment system
All-day and multiple-day passes must be activated at station platforms or on buses before boarding the train.
Platinum Passes must be tapped on the orange target on the fare vending machine or near station entrances each time you board. It’s important for Platinum Pass and U-Pass users to “Touch, Hold & Go” to ensure your ride has been registered on your card:
1. Place the card directly on the orange target.
2. Hold for two seconds.
3. Wait for the confirmation ding or the yellow light before removing your card.
Failure to buy and/or validate your pass can result in fines of $50 to $500 and the loss of your transit privileges.
