Calling All 3rd Graders

PHOENIX (Sept. 2, 2009) – The fifth annual Cool Bus STUFF contest kicks off with an invite to all Valley 3rd graders that love to draw. With the theme, Valley Metro: Go Smart. Go Transit. Valley youth are encouraged to demonstrate their artistic ability by showing how transit can be fun, safe and help the Earth!

When:        Entries accepted until Friday, October 9, 2009

How:          Using the theme of Valley Metro: Go Smart. Go Transit., draw a picture that focuses on one of the following areas:

1. Go Transit to fun places. Show how you and your family can travel by city bus and/or light rail to the coolest places in the city.
2. Go Transit the safe way: Show how you and your family travel safely on the city bus and/or light rail.
3. Go Transit and help planet Earth: Show how you and your family help conserve energy and help keep our air cleaner by traveling on the city bus and/or light rail.

Why:          To be one of 13 winners featured in the Valley Metro Transit Education 2010 calendar and win fun prizes including a certificate and a framed copy of each winner’s artwork.

Rules of the contest:
• Artwork can be drawn in crayons, colored pencils, markers, or computer drawings and must be drawn on an 8 ½ x 11 white piece paper.
• All 3rd graders in Maricopa County during the 2009/2010 school year are eligible to submit art
• Artwork must be designed and created by an individual student
• Contest is limited to one entry per person
• Deadline for entry is Friday, October 9, 2009 at 5 p.m.

Valley Metro/RPTA provides eco-friendly public transit options to residents of greater Phoenix and Maricopa County, including a clean-fuel bus fleet, low-emissions light rail,  a bio-diesel Dial-a-Ride fleet, online carpool matching and bus trip mapping, and bicycle and telework assistance. Funding is provided by local, state and federal revenues; and administered by a board of 15 governments working to improve and regionalize the public transit system.
