Get Your Transit Info “To Go”

Agency News

For Valley residents needing bus routing information on-the-go, Valley Metro offers a mobile-friendly version of its web site for web-enabled handheld devices and cell phones.

“Our customers are mobile and they need access to trip planning and bus routing information whether they are at work, the mall, or a bus stop,” said David A. Boggs, Valley Metro executive director. “This new technology provides convenience to passengers making their search for bus schedules quick and easy.”

Valley Metro, the regional transit provider, began offering the mobile version of the web site, www.valleymetro.org, in late 2007. All Valley Metro bus schedules, the on-line trip planner, rider alerts and agency news are the most essential and widely-used services now featured in mobile view format, just by going to ValleyMetro.org on your mobile device.

The agency has hired New York-based firm, Usablenet Inc., to create and support the mobile version of its web site. The company has also developed a “text only” feature for Valley Metro.org that assists the visually impaired in adjusting the lettering size and screen colors for improved legibility. Usablenet specializes in helping organizations support users of mobile and assistive technologies for web access. Their clients include Delta Air Lines, Amtrak, US Airways, LA Metro and New Jersey Transit.
