PHOENIX (April 24, 2009) – High school art students across the Valley competed to have their artwork exhibited on a moving canvas for the 9th annual Bus Wrap contest.

“We want high school students to understand that public transportation is an important way to save money and pollution,” said David A. Boggs, Valley Metro executive director. “They are co-owners of our transit system, so it’s valuable for them to be involved.

The winning design was produced by Max Ellinger, a 16-year old Sophomore from the New School for the Arts & Academics (NSAA) in Tempe. Max will help unveil his artwork on a 40-foot bus on Wednesday, April 29 at NSAA, located at 1216 Apache Boulevard, Tempe.

“Max’s entry was chosen because his artwork is creative, exciting and dramatic,” said Dolores Nolan, Valley Metro Transit Education Manager. “In addition to its visual merits, Max’s entry provided a timely environmental message.”

Second and third place winners will also be recognized: Andrew Tamayo, age 14, Freshman, Central High School, Phoenix and Karla Rubio, age 15, Freshman, Central High School, Phoenix. Ellinger’s artwork was chosen out of 64 entries submitted by public and charter schools across the Valley and will be on a Valley Metro bus for one year.
