19th Avenue is Open for Holiday Shoppers

PHOENIX, AZ – Northwest Phoenix light rail construction is taking a holiday along 19th Avenue with all major intersections open for travel. Valley Metro has partnered with the city of Phoenix and the light rail contractor, Sundt Stacy & Witbeck, to accelerate the schedule for roadway widening at Bethany Home Road and Northern Avenue. The advancement of construction activity will result in fewer traffic restrictions and increased access to popular shopping destinations.

“Maintaining access to every business along 19th Avenue is key during all phases of light rail construction,” said Marty Spong, Valley Metro Construction Manager. “During this time of year, it’s especially important to continue to encourage residents to shop nearby and support their locally-owned storefronts.”

Beginning Thanksgiving Day, November 27 through Thursday, January 1, shoppers along 19th Avenue can expect full access at all major intersections. Visual signs of progress are evident with laid track, new street paving, curbs, gutters and sidewalks throughout the light rail alignment.

Valley Metro continues to support businesses along 19th Avenue through the METRO Max Rewards program, which focuses on special discount offers, and a Shop On Win On campaign that engages local businesses and their patrons with social media and business raffle contests.
