Artist: Kayla Newnam

Growing up in Phoenix, Kayla Newnam is a recent graduate with a BFA in Painting from Pratt Institute of Art & Design in Brooklyn, New York. These two disparate environments influence her work greatly.

She works primarily in acrylic paint on canvas, touching on the themes of anonymity, generalization and distraction through visual stimuli. To obtain this, Kayla uses bright colors and vibrating patterns that energize and transform the two-dimensionality of any surface.

She has worked on multiple installation projects in both Brooklyn and Phoenix.

Since her graduation this past Spring, she has been an artist in residence at the Ox-Bow School of Art in Saugatuk, Michigan for glass casting and has been published in various art zines in Boston, Brooklyn and Michigan.

Kayla currently resides in Phoenix where she furthers her creation of colorful new worlds to hypnotize all.
