50th Street Station

50th Street Station

Status

Construction on the 50th St/Washington Valley Metro Rail station began on June 8, 2017.

Safety tips in construction zones:

  • Be alert around construction
  • Allow for extra travel time
  • Always use designated crosswalks
  • Limit distractions such as cell phones and headphones

Background

The first new station along the existing Valley Metro Rail system will serve the communities and future development near 50th Street and Washington. The station will provide access to the Ability360 facility and the neighboring business community, as well as support transit-oriented development planned for the area. Ability360 offers and promotes programs designed to empower people with disabilities to take personal responsibility so that they may achieve or continue independent lifestyles within the community.

View the city of Phoenix PHXTV update on the new station.

The station will be a model of increased accessibility with design elements incorporated as a result of the PHX Innovation Games challenge issued by the City of Phoenix Mayor’s Office. The station designer is working with Innovation Games winner, Dig Studio, on station access, aesthetics and station entry areas.  Artist Barbara Grygutis is creating the art for the station.

The 50th Street Station is the first light rail project slated under Phoenix Transportation 2050 (T2050).

Business Assistance

Valley Metro and the city of Phoenix have dedicated professionals to help residents and businesses through construction. A custom business assistance program also provides resources to help businesses within the project area stay well-positioned during construction.
