City of Phoenix West Transit Facility

This state-of-the-art transit facility is comprised of four structures totaling 123,711 square feet, including a covered fueling area and covered parking for all transit and private vehicles. Clean-burning Liquefied Natural Gas and Compressed Natural Gas fuel systems are included. The buildings house a variety of functions, including preventive maintenance, light repair, equipment and parts storage, inspection, interior cleaning, vehicle washing, and administrative areas for driver dispatching, training, and support. This project was the first large-scale bus operations facility in the U.S. to utilize drive-through design. This eliminates the need for any backing maneuvers, increasing safety throughout the entire site. The concept is achieved by a design that allows for access to all bays from a central circulation spine. Overhead doors at the end of each bay allow buses to exit the building without any backing maneuvers.
