Fiesta District Alternatives Analysis

An Alternatives Analysis (AA) is underway to identify the type of high capacity transit, such as bus rapid transit, light rail, or modern streetcar that will best meet the area’s transportation needs. The AA will also evaluate where high capacity transit could travel within the study area. Join Valley Metro and the city of Mesa for a public meeting to learn about the study. Click here for meeting details.

Next Steps

The Alternatives Analysis (AA) began in summer 2017 and is scheduled to conclude in summer 2019. Following the AA, the recommended transit type and route will move forward for input from the community and elected officials.

Valley Metro, in partnership with cities of Chandler and Mesa, and the town of Gilbert, recently completed a study which identified potential land use adjustments and transit investments, including local bus service and high capacity transit to meet anticipated demand for public transportation. The study recommended conducting further analysis of a corridor from the existing light rail line in downtown Mesa, south along Dobson Road and east on Southern Avenue, ending at either Country Club Drive or extending farther south on Country Club Drive to end at Baseline Road. Study of a potential Phase II that would extend to Germann Road was also recommended.
