Good transportation is vital for everyone’s health, independence and ability to participate in all that the East Valley has to offer.

Many transportation options are available for you in the East Valley as seen in the following service descriptions. Please review the services described below to see which work best for you. That way, each time you plan a trip, you can select the best travel choice and enjoy the ride!

Bus and Light Rail - It’s Your Best Value!

Transit Fare Discounts
There are many options with the bus and light rail (launching in the Valley on December 29, 2008). In addition to the extensive choices in routes, discounted fares are also available. A monthly Reduced Fare Pass is available for $22.50 or pay 60 cents for one-way travel. Even better, a Reduced All-Day Pass provides unlimited rides for $1.25.

Cab Programs

Coupons for Cabs

Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa and Tempe residents may request coupon booklets for a nominal co-pay of $2.50 for one book, valued at $10. The coupons can then be applied toward the fare and tip of participating taxi companies.

Scottsdale residents may receive up to twenty vouchers per month per user. Vouchers are subsidized by the City of Scottsdale at a rate
of 80% up to a maximum of $10.

Maricopa County Special
Transportation Services (STS)

STS provides county-wide door-to-door transportation to elderly, disabled and low-income Chandler, Mesa and Tempe residents. Trip reservations may be requested up to fourteen days in advance; same day trips may be available. Reservations are taken from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Remember the old phrase: There’s no such thing as a free lunch. Well, in Scottsdale and Tempe that’s not exactly true! Both cities offer FREE circulator bus service, using smaller buses to connect residential areas to local destinations such as other neighborhoods, major bus routes, medical centers, schools, shopping and recreational areas and multi-generational centers.

Dial-A-Ride is available to residents of the East Valley. Within the city of Mesa, Dial-A-Ride is only available to Mesa residents who are ADA certified. Service hours vary; call
for details.

Mesa Mileage Reimbursement

Mesa senior citizens age 65 and over and persons with disabilities are eligible to apply for this program. Participants may receive a per mile reimbursement up to 300 miles
per month.
The passengers choose their own drivers who cannot reside with them. Reimbursements are made to the passengers who are then required to pass along the reimbursements to their volunteer drivers.

Would you like to get more involved with the growing transit scene in the Valley?

If so, the Maricopa Association of Governments is recruiting participants for the Transportation Ambassador Program, a new program designed to connect people, especially older adults and people with low incomes or disabilities, to human services transportation opportunities in the Maricopa County region.

Ambassadors will receive free training, resource kits and technical support to participate. In return, they will help keep their friends, neighbors and coworkers current on available transportation services.
