Public Transit staff members are seeking public feedback on the new proposed schedule.
PHOENIX—The recent Phoenix budget cuts have forced the City of Phoenix Public Transit Department to reduce the DEER RUN neighborhood circulator service in Deer Valley. Deer Run travels from Yorkshire Drive all the way north to Happy Valley Road, covering a portion of 61st Avenue to the west and a portion of 22nd Avenue to the east. It currently runs in 30-minute frequencies and is a free service.
With advice from a council-appointed citizens planning committee—made up of Deer Valley residents, students, and business leaders—Public Transit staff members now have an option to present to Deer Valley residents for feedback.
After three meetings/workshops, the citizens planning committee has agreed to change DEER RUN’s current 30-minute frequency schedule to a one-hour frequency schedule in order to reduce the service miles by 50 percent, as approved by the Phoenix City Council last February. The route, however, will remain the same.
Public Transit staff members will be taking the planning committee’s recommendation to the public with an Open House event, where concerned citizens can give their suggestions and comments to Public Transit staff. Staff members will then present all comments to the citizens planning committee for consideration before alterations to the service take place.
Changes to the DEER RUN service will take effect on Monday, July 27, 2009.
