South Central Downtown Hub Construction

There seems to be an app for everything these days. With just my smartphone, I can order my favorite coffee, get pet food delivered to my door and find out my next bus and train arrival time on the handy NextRide app. The latest app from Valley Metro is Construct VM, and it helps people who may be affected by the transit construction downtown. If you live or work in the downtown area, you have probably come across construction taking place on South Central Ave. This project will provide a new downtown hub and five-mile light rail extension to South Phoenix. It will consist of nine stops and two park-and-rides with artwork featured by local artists. It's expected to be completed by 2024. While construction can be frustrating to deal with, having less traffic on the road makes this an ideal time to build.

McKinley - Central Construction

To communicate all construction updates as quickly as possible, Valley Metro has launched a mobile app called Construct VM, developed by the project’s construction contractor, Kiewit Corporation. It can be downloaded on iOS or Android devices. The app gives users timely information and updates regarding current construction projects.

South Central Construction Map

The app consists of a map view that lists all current travel restrictions. Users can receive push notifications based on location. The home screen shows the percentage of project completion and lists construction notices with detour information. There is a progress page where users can see photos and videos of the construction. There are also resources listed in the app, such as a contact form, frequently asked questions, and links to Valley Metro’s social media and other informational sites. It even has a page devoted to shopping locally, where you can find a map of deals and discounts for local businesses in the area.

Construct VM is a great way to stay informed about our progress, but you can also visit www.valleymetro.org/pop to learn more about service impacts due to the construction. If email is your preferred way to receive communication, you can subscribe to our email notices. We are excited about the transformation taking place and hope you are too.
