March is Women’s History Month and that makes it the perfect time to highlight some of the women who help connect communities and enhance lives with Valley Metro every day.

In an interview for Valley Metro’s internal podcast, Shifting Ears, Public Information Specialist Madeline Phipps sat down with Debby Thacker and Michele Wallick, two important women who keep Valley Metro running smoothly every day.

Thacker is the assistant manager for rail operations and Wallick is the fixed route administrator for bus operations.

“I’m very fortunate here with Valley Metro,” Thacker said. “The team I work with here today are very respectful and supportive of the women in operations and in Valley Metro in general.”

Wallick also said she feels the support from her male coworkers and says she comes to work every day with her game face on.

“I can’t say that I’ve ever come across two days that are ever the same in operations,” Wallick said. “Every day is a different animal. Every day is a different challenge, but every day is a great day as long as we are able to make service.”

Both Thacker and Wallick work in a heavily male dominated industry and they have both earned the respect of their counterparts.

International Women’s Day, which fell on March 8, provided the perfect way to highlight the women throughout the agency on our social media platforms.
