As the weather gets hotter, don’t be a fool, hydrate! | Valley Metro

We all know that the summer months here in Arizona can certainly be hot and uncomfortable. With Valley temperatures increasing, it is important to stay prepared. That is one of the reasons why we encourage all who utilize our services at Valley Metro to stay hydrated. No matter how you travel, whether it be by light rail, bus, or streetcar, we care. Many of our passengers are native to Arizona and are always well prepared for the sweltering months. But let’s not forget those visitors who come in from different climates to visit the Grand Canyon State for business or pleasure and are not familiar with our stifling summer temperatures.

Passengers using appropriate water bottles during their trip

You might hear our overhead announcements at light rail stations or see signs on buses asking riders to stay hydrated. One of our most requested rider tips is to encourage all riders to come prepared with spill-proof containers. It’s part of our overall Respect for the Ride safety efforts as we want to maintain a high level of comfort and safety for our passengers.

If you happen to see our Customer Experience Coordinators on the light rail or streetcar system, they are there to help keep you informed with handy rider tips, such as staying hydrated. If you do find yourself unprepared for your commute, there are many locations near stations and stops that provide affordable drinks in spill-proof containers. From personal experience, I know that a cool drink can improve your experience as a traveler. A beverage that is not in a spill-proof container can cause a safety hazard for everyone around you and requires clean-up by maintenance, which can also cause delays to service.

While I may never get used to our hot summer temperatures as a San Diego native, I remind myself daily how important it is to stay hydrated. Whether riding public transit or exploring the great outdoors of this beautiful state, it’s paramount to plan and keep your water close by!
