Commuting to and from work can be tedious and takes a toll on the driver and vehicle. When one Valley commuter decided to win big by switching from driving alone to carpooling, she didn’t expect to gain a relationship.

Meet Kamela R., an employee at Phoenix Children’s Hospital and carpooler. She explained why she chooses to carpool, “It all adds up to convenience, saving money and fun! Our schedules may change so we can adjust the departure and arrival times.” Vehicle wear is also an issue with the commute from Laveen to Phoenix, but Kamela explained how they deal with it, “We take turns using our vehicles and it provides a much-needed break!”

Surprisingly, there is an element of fun when carpooling. “When I’ve entered to win movie tickets and won at work, I’ll share them with my carpool buddy. We also have a rule that the passenger must read the news on the way to work!” Kamela said with a smile, “We’ve been carpooling for more than two years and have built a great relationship around it.” Valley commuters may find their scrambled commute finally adding up when they take the step toward reducing trips and carpool or vanpool instead.
