Valley Metro cares about the health and well-being of our community. The lifeline service we provide only happens with equal care and concern for our front-line staff and passengers.
Beginning Saturday, March 21, 2020, Valley Metro, in concert with the city of Phoenix Public Transit Department, will institute additional, temporary safety measures on our transit vehicles that will enhance distancing between operators and passengers by requiring passengers to enter/exit through the rear doors. Passengers are still expected to pay and have evidence of a valid fare prior to boarding. Fare inspection by bus operators and rail security officers will be limited in keeping with CDC recommended distancing protocols. We will continue to evaluate this temporary measure.
Additionally, plastic shields are being installed between operators and passengers on all buses to further protect operators.
These precautions follows the advice of public health and safety professionals and is consistent with our commitment to keep our front-line staff and passengers safe. Public transportation is critical to our community. The Valley Metro team remains dedicated to providing this essential service and this safety measure will help increase protections across the transit system.
