Arcadia High School student, Kate Flores, is the winner of Valley Metro’s 20th Annual Design a Transit Wrap contest. Her artwork, titled Oh the places you’ll go with Valley Metro, will be featured on a bus and light rail train for one year.

“I wanted to show off Phoenix, and all the different places Valley Metro takes people” said Flores. “I even put in Camelback Mountain because my high school overlooks it, and I wanted a little piece of me represented in the design.”

Flores’ design was chosen out of more than 100 entries submitted by high school students across Maricopa County.

The Design a Transit Wrap contest encourages high school students to create artwork that promotes public transit from their own point of view. Over the past 20 years, students have included a variety of themes and messages, often encouraging people to take transit to be part of the community, help the environment and save money.

In lieu of the traditional unveiling ceremony at her high school, Flores and her family visited Valley Metro’s Operations and Maintenance Center yesterday to see the train and bus displaying her artwork.

Sydney Storment, a Marcos de Niza High School sophomore, is awarded second place and Red Mountain High School junior, Katie Torbit, placed third.
