"I have entered this contest since I was a freshman. So to win as a senior is amazing!" CeLyn Evens shares her excitement.
Evens is the 2019 Design a Transit Wrap winner. She is a senior at Marcos de Niza High School who plans to major in graphic design in college. Evens shared how this was a long process for her, coming up with the perfect design, but it was easily her favorite project of the year.
“I really thought about the bus driving around and the people who were going to see it. I wanted to create something simple, but appealing and bright,” said Evens. “I also wanted to show diversity since this bus will be going everywhere.” Her artwork, titled A New Journey Everyday, will be featured on a bus and light rail train for one year.
Evens’ design was chosen out of more than 100 entries submitted by high school students across the Valley. She is the second Marcos de Niza student to win in three years.
“I graduated from Marcos de Niza High School,” said Tempe Councilmember Joel Navarro. “To see amazing students such as CeLyn continue to chase their passion and thrive, it makes me proud to be a Padre. It makes me proud to be a part of the Tempe community,” as he shares his excitement about Celyn’s accomplishments.
The Design a Transit Wrap contest encourages high school students to create artwork that promotes public transit from their own point of view.
Maggie Schira, a Marcos de Niza senior, received second place and Peoria High School junior, Lyndzi Ramos, placed third. Ramos was the winner of the 2018 contest.
