Celebrate Rideshare Month in October and win prizes! | Valley Metro
Rideshare Month 2022

A change in the weather calls for a change in the way you commute. Celebrate Rideshare Month this October and join a carpool or vanpool, take transit or try biking or walking to work.

“We encourage Valley workers to try out a new commute and reduce their single-occupancy vehicle trips this fall,” said Abigail Cooksey-Williams, TDM Manager. “Cutting down on auto emissions provides a better quality of life for all of us in the region, and studies show that sharing the ride saves commuters time and money too.”

In October 2021, nearly 1,500 Valley commuters participated in Rideshare Month, using alternative modes—carpool, vanpool, transit, walking or cycling— saving 768,193 miles from being traveled. They also helped improve our air quality by saving 298 tons of carbon dioxide emissions and nearly 35,000 gallons of gasoline. The benefits also extend to the commuters themselves, who collectively burned more than 576,000 calories by biking or walking.

Participants can log alternative commutes at ShareTheRide.com to see how much money and time they’re saving by reducing single-occupancy trips. Throughout the month of October, there are opportunities to join special challenges and be entered to win prizes. Follow along on the ShareTheRideandSave Facebook page for other contests to be revealed throughout the month.

The first challenge is already underway: now through September 30, take the Rideshare Month pledge and you could win a cruise for two on Lake Pleasant.
