Coors Light® is teaming up with Valley Metro and Uber to help Phoenix residents and visitors safely celebrate New Year's Eve. Coors Light Free Rides® will be available on all Valley Metro bus, rail, Dial-a-Ride and paratransit services Sunday, December 31, from 7 p.m. until end of service.
Since the program began locally in 2012, there have been nearly 135,000 safe rides taken thanks to the partnership. The program has gained the support of state and local law enforcement, including the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.
Coors Light Free Rides will continue its partnership with Uber to offer discounted rides to and from all Valley Metro Rail stations on the holiday. New Year’s Eve riders can get 10% off two Uber rides to or from rail stations from 3 p.m. on New Year’s Eve until end of Valley Metro regular service on January 1 by entering the code CLNYE18.
“We’re excited to continue our partnership with Coors Light and Uber to offer travelers safe and convenient transportation alternatives,” said Valley Metro Rail Chair and Mesa Councilmember Chris Glover. “We anticipate there will be many residents and visitors to the Valley who will want to travel by bus or rail and use Uber to complete their transit trip on New Year’s Eve.”
As part of the 2025 Global Goals MillerCoors developed in partnership with Molson Coors, MillerCoors aims to implement impactful programs to prevent drunk driving in every market where beer is sold. Designated driver and safe ride programs like Coors Light Free Rides are critical components of meeting that goal.

About Valley Metro: Valley Metro provides eco-friendly public transit options to residents of greater Phoenix and Maricopa County including the planning and operations of a regional bus system and the development and operations of 26 miles of light rail. In Fiscal Year 2017, total ridership for the system was 66 million passengers. Seven high capacity transit extensions are under construction that will create a 66-mile system by 2034. Valley Metro also offers transit options including alternative transportation programs for seniors and people with disabilities, commuter vanpools, online carpool matching, bus trip mapping, bicycle safety and telework assistance. Two Boards of Directors set the policy direction for the agency with the intent of advancing the regional public transit system. In October 2017, the Boards approved a “Respect the Ride” Code of Conduct, focusing on creating a safe and positive rider experience, while also discouraging disruptive, intrusive, unsafe or inappropriate behaviors in a public setting.
