Expansion of the Rail Operations & Maintenance Center to provide the necessary space to operate, maintain and store more than 90 rail vehicles.

  • In late 2017, Valley Metro released a Request for Qualifications and Request for Proposals to procure a contractor to design and build the OMC Expansion.
  • Design/Build contractor will be selected in spring 2018.
  • Design and construction at the OMC would begin in the summer of 2018.

The Rail Operations and Maintenance Center (OMC), built in 2006 for the original initial 20-mile light rail line, provides office space and facilities to store, inspect, maintain, clean, and operate trains. With the expansion of the Valley Metro Rail system, the OMC also needs to expand. The expansion includes additional storage track, maintenance buildings, cleaning structures, and staff facilities. In 2017, Valley Metro completed a needs assessment to develop a conceptual design for the expansion of the facility to meet the future fleet size and needs.
