The Operations and Maintence Center (OMC) expansion is needed to accommodate more vehicles with future rail system expansion. Construction for additional space will include expanding various maintenance buildings, adding five new storage tracks and adding new service and cleaning facilities. The expansion will allow the OMC to operate and maintain a fleet of approximately 90 vehicles; currently the facility can operate and maintain 50 vehicles.

Construction will be phased to ensure operations and maintenance of the current light rail system is unaffected.

The latest construction efforts:

  • Substantially completed the Maintenance of Way building.
  • Substantially completed the new cleaning platform, which doubles the cleaning production.
  • Substantially completed all remaining work in the rail yard and started developing list of punch list items.
  • Substantially completed Maintenance of Equipment shop expansion, new offices, and new shop areas.

Coordination with stakeholders about construction impacts continues.

The next steps:

  • Complete vehicle wash station.
  • Complete renovated areas on the Maintenance of Equipment building second floor.
  • Final project completion is estimated for December 23, 2021.

The Valley Metro Operations and Maintenance Center (OMC) opened in 2006 to store and maintain a fleet of 50 light rail vehicles. The light rail vehicles are used to operate the current 28-mile Valley Metro rail system. With expansion to a 66-mile system by 2034, new vehicles will be added to the fleet and additional space is needed at the OMC to property operate and maintain them.
