Valley Metro is repainting the metal at all rail stations.
Pictured: Repainted light rail station at 19th Ave and Montebello
Valley Metro Rail stations are getting a makeover! Over time everything needs a little sprucing up, so Valley Metro is repainting the metal at all rail stations. The project started in December 2018 and is scheduled to be completed in about 6 years. The newly painted stations will sport the new color, Monorail Silver.
As the painting process happens, plants that are integrated into the stations will be removed. They will be replaced with new foliage, custom to the station’s heat and sun exposure, once the painting is complete. Trees and other plants not touching the metal areas will be covered and preserved when possible. In addition, certain station elements – including canopies, signage and/or screens – may be temporarily removed across different stages of the painting process.
Station painting also allows an opportunity to perform conservation and maintenance to artwork. The Kinetic Canopy at Central/Roosevelt received a revised color palette to simulate a Palo Verde tree and shadow play, while setting the stage for the Spotlight Artist mural wall. The Central/McDowell artwork received bronze conservation methods of cleaning, a patina and waxing.
- Service and rider access will not be impacted because most of the work is being done between 7 p.m.-4 a.m.
- Work zone barricades are up to protect light rail riders from the fresh paint.
- Station platforms are taking approximately 8 weeks
- Station platforms are being painted with one main color and accent colors.
- Phoenix/Tempe Stations – The main color is Monorail Silver and the accent colors vary by station. The accent colors are determined by compatibility with existing color scheme and artwork elements
- Mesa Station (Sycamore) – The main color is Van Dyke Brown and the accent color was Latte. This was selected to be consistent with the new Gilbert Road Extension
