Tempe/Mesa

The Tempe/Mesa Streetcar Feasibility Study will collect data and identify preliminary corridors as potential extensions to the Tempe Streetcar.

The Tempe/Mesa Streetcar Feasibility Study began in May 2018. Data collection is currently underway to determine:

  • Best connectivity to the overall transit system
  • Ridership projections
  • Project cost
  • Traffic interface

The first stage of analysis (Tier 1) that evaluated potential route option is completed and the project team developed preliminary streetcar options (see map below).

The second stage of analysis (Tier 2) will continue to evaluate these preliminary options with more specific criteria.

Valley Metro is working with the cities of Tempe and Mesa to evaluate potential high-capacity transit options in Tempe and Mesa. The Tempe/Mesa Streetcar Feasibility Study will evaluate possible streetcar extensions to connect the Tempe Streetcar with key regional activity centers, employment destinations and emerging multi-unit residential developments in Tempe and Mesa.
